BUNDAR ROAD HERITAGE
Some Details

An Apartment Block

An old Dharamsala

This Dharamsala from the days of early Karachi has been encroached and built upon to a point where only a few glimpses of it can be seen behind ugly and haphazard construction work. Even though it has lost its purpose as a Dharamsala, the building is deserving to be preserved as part of a Bundar road rehabilitation plan.

Changing Times?

Following is a picture of a point along Bundar road that was taken during the early days of Karachi, compared with a picture taken in the present day. It presents a sad picture of the general state of decay that can be found through the length of M. A. Jinnah road.

The first picture dates from the early 1900's contrasted with a picture from late 2005

More evidence of this severe decay that afflicts Bundar road today, comes from the examination of an old picture of the Mohamedali Allibhoy Karimji & Sons building from the 1860's with pictures of the same building from the present day.

The need of the hour is an urgent effort at restoration of all the heritage on this road and strict regulations governing the usage of these buildings. Any renovation work or construction that needs to be done on M. A. Jinnah road should be of a nature that it keeps the facade of these buildings intact and in good shape.
